October 17, 2010 update
Article that appeared in the Post-Star by Don Lehman stated that the Route 9N Bridge will be restricted to one lane permanently until it is replaced next year.
After repairs of the southbound lane are finished, it will be reopened. Then the Northbound lane will be closed permanently.
September 15, 2010 bridge has been reduced to one alternating lane of traffic.
On Monday, February 9th, 2009, the NYS Dept. of Transportation gave a presentation on the plans to replace the bridge on 9N between Lake Luzerne and Hadley. The project will take from 1 to 2 years to complete.
The planned start date of construction is July 2010 and the NYS DOT presented us with 2 options.
OPTION 1. - Close all traffic and take down the bridge detouring traffic to use East River Drive.
OPTION 2. - Build a new bridge next to the existing bridge leaving the current bridge open to traffic.
The town board of Hadley has passed a resolution supporting Option 2. We believe it is the best solution and the cost is about the same according the the representative from NYSDOT.
Thank you to everyone that wrote letters to Governor David Patterson, Senator Hugh Farley, & Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward requesting the Commissioner or Transportation to approve Option 2 along with the funding to complete the project.
As of Spring 2009, D.O.T. is leaning toward building the new bridge parallel to the old bridge and keeping the road open for the complete project.
Updates will be given as received.
